Mr. Arvind Vepa, UCL International Liaison & Recruitment Officer, said, "We are delighted to participate in the GREAT Britain Scholarships - India 2015 scheme to support talented Indian students to pursue higher education at UCL and address the global challenges of the future."

"Indian students are an integral part of the UCL community. They contribute to the diversity on campus and UCL's reputation as world-leading university. Their association with UCL often begins before they arrive in the UK and continues long after they complete their education and pursue their career pathways," added Vepa.

About the GREAT-India Scholarship Programme

The GREAT scholarship programme is a joint initiative, part funded through the UK government's GREAT campaign and through contributions made by UK Universities including UCL. It provides Indian students an opportunity to have a fulfilling educational experience in the UK.

During a recent visit to India in October 2014, Vince Cable, UK's Minister of Business, Innovation and Skills announced the GREAT Britain Scholarships - India 2015 as part of the 'GREAT Britain' campaign in New Delhi. The scholarships for 2015-16 are worth almost £1.5 million and are tenable for September 2015 and January 2016 intakes for undergraduate and postgraduate courses at 57 UK institutions.

About UCL

UCL is one of the world's leading universities. Founded in 1826, UCL was the first to admit students regardless of race, class, religion or gender, and the first to provide systematic teaching of law, architecture and medicine.

Based in the heart of London, it is a modern, outward-looking institution. UCL's staff and former students include 29 Nobel Prize winners and our continued eminence is demonstrated by our high rankings in several external assessments of universities (e.g. 5th in the QS World University Rankings 2014/15). We are a truly international community: more than one-third of our student body - around 29,000 strong - come from nearly 150 countries and nearly one-third of staff are from outside the UK.

Currently 241 Indian students are enrolled at UCL. Our distinguished Indian alumni include Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Romesh Chander Dutt, S.R. Ranganathan, V.K. Krishna Menon, Mulk Raj Anand, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, Retd. Justices S.S. Nijjar and A.S. Anand; and Hasan Gafoor.
