Asian Heart Institute Launches 'Fit2RunHearts'

PR Newswire | 06 Jan, 2014
MUMBAI, India: The New Year brings positivity, hope and cheer into our lives. It comes with the promise of good times ahead and gives a new start to life. It already has, to the 100 heart patients who have recovered marvellously post their surgery at the Asian Heart Institute (http://www.asianheartinstitute.org). A 100 member strong "Cardiac Patient turned Marathon Runner" contingent will be running the Standard Chartered Marathon on 19th January, 2014 as a part of Asian Heart Institute's 'Fit to Run' team this year.

They are fit to run, fit to celebrate and fit to take on any challenge. All thanks to Asian Heart Institute's world-class cardiac specialty services and their post-surgery rehabilitation that have pumped life into many hearts.

Fit2RunHearts (http://www.fit2runhearts.com) is a special initiative by Asian Heart Institute that encourages its heart patients to run the Marathon, thereby displaying their belief that it takes a complete post-surgery rehabilitation to build a stronger, healthier heart and not just a successful surgery.

Meet the Inspirational Runners by logging on to http://www.fit2runhearts.com, they who have triumphed against all odds and have been guided by Asian Heart Institute's Cardiac Rehabilitation team under the expert guidance of Dr. Aashish Contractor, Medical Director of the Marathon and Dr. Ramakanta Panda, world's leading cardiac surgeon.

The motto of this team is to spread the message that one can continue to live a happy and healthy life even after their surgery with thorough diagnosis and post-surgery care offered at AHI. These evangelists of healthy hearts will now be 'Heart Ambassadors'- a powerful community that reaches out to others as torchbearers of hope, faith and discipline.

Says Dr. Contractor, "With the right program and procedures in place today, it is possible to promise the patients not just normal life post-operation, but better than normal life. For 11 years the program and the association as Medical Partner to the Standard Chartered marathon has yielded visible results; with patients running post pure medication, angioplasty and even bypass with multiple grafts."

In anticipation of the program 'Fit2Run Hearts', Dr. Ramakanta Panda, VC and MD, Asian Heart Institute said, "Anyone around the world can learn all the things that these bravehearts have done, both pre- and post-surgery to get better than normal. Asian Heart Institute is committed to taking up the challenge of the most inoperable case, and turning the person around to a believer in the power of correct treatment and improved lifestyle."
