E-learning for Kids Partners with Sify eLearning

PR Newswire | 21 Jul, 2011

CHENNAI, India: Sify Technologies Limited, a leader in Enterprise and Consumer Internet Services in India with global delivery capabilities, today announced a continuing  partnership with e-Learning for Kids (EFK), a global  non-profit, non-government organization with over 200+ free high quality basic skills online courses for children ages 5-12.

e-Learning for Kids (EFK, http://www.e-learningforkids.org) is committed to opening doors to education worldwide. In 2010, more than 2.3 million children benefited from one or more EFK courses. The organization is run by Learning professionals who volunteer their time and skills and bring together some of the best brains from education, e-Learning, and business; all of them united to make a difference to children, parents and teachers everywhere.

Social responsibility has always been an important concern for Sify. So, when EFK approached Sify eLearning again to create computer-based learning that would reach out to children in developing countries, it synchronized with Sify's efforts to provide support to humanitarian projects.

Commenting on the development, Devraj Shetty, Head - Sify eLearning, said, "The opportunity to develop free eLearning courses for children, who may otherwise have had no experience of Computer-based Learning (CBL), is an extremely rewarding and fulfilling experience. We are also happy that our courses will provide the necessary fun-in-learning to children across the globe."

The collaborative project was completed in two development phases. The first phase saw the release of four courses targeted at five to eight year-olds, and comprised courses on Basic English grammar and Science. Impressed with the partnership, EFK approached Sify for the second time a year later. This stint involved developing four more modules on English grammar, this time for a more advanced learner group aged eight to twelve years.

The courses on English grammar in the first year comprised eLessons on L0603-Pronouns and L0803-Prefixes and Suffixes. In the second year, there were four English courses in all: L0601-Compound Words, L0701-Parts of Speech, L0801-Figurative Language, and L0802-Sentences and Punctuation. These courses are geared to a beginner level of awareness and understanding, and aim to improve understanding of grammar and syntax among children in the target audience group.

The courses on Basic Science (Solar System and Lunar Cycle) build on a child's perspective of the night sky, stars, and planets opening up a fascinating world of space travel/ exploration.

Michael Williams, Director of Courseware Development, EFK further commented, "Sify understands our audience very well. Both sets of courses are rich in visual design and interactivity ensuring children across the world will be able to relate to the visuals created. The navigation of these online courses is highly intuitive offering a user-friendly environment that new users can easily navigate through.  We look forward to more opportunities to work with Sify."
