The Textile Ministry has sought nearly 60% jump in funds from the Planning Commission during the 12th Plan period for 2012-17.

"We have placed a demand of Rs 35,000 crore from the Planning Commission during the 12th Plan period under all planned schemes," Union textile secretary Rita Menon said in Kolkata on Monday.

"The original plan outlay for 11th Plan period was Rs 14,000 crore but we have been granted additional fund of Rs 22,000 crore so far," she added.

Menon said Technology Upgradation Fund for textile for the current fiscal was Rs 1,972 crore and the ministry was promoting the scheme through roadshows.

The TUF scheme might be extended in the 12th Plan period, sources in the ministry said.

Meanwhile, State Textile Minister Manas Bhunia said the state was planning to increase cotton production under the green revolution scheme.
