Following the recommendation of the Task Force set up by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) has set the MSME - Marketing Intelligence Cell for the assistance of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The MSME – Marketing Intelligence Cell was inaugurated by T.K.A Nair, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India in the capital on Saturday.   

While congratulating both the Ministry of MSME and NSIC team, Nair said, “Apart from lack of access to credit, the biggest challenge facing the Indian MSMEs is that of marketing, as they struggle in an increasingly competitive and globalised economy where they face competition not only from large industries but also from abroad.”

“Marketing is extremely important for the growth of any industry whether it is big or small,” he added.

He also said that establishment of Marketing Intelligence Cell will help in the growth of MSME sector. He urged MSMEs to make full use of this Centre in becoming globally competitive.

Speaking on the same occasion Dinesh  Rai, Secretary (MSME) said that the  Marketing  Intelligence Cell was in line with the recommendation of the MSME task force.   

He said, “NSIC has established this Marketing Intelligence Cell for the benefit and development of MSME sector. This Cell will collect and disseminate domestic as well as international marketing intelligence to MSMEs which would enhance their market capabilities and competitiveness.”

He further added that in the current era of globalization, MSMEs needs marketing information about the changing patterns of fashions/tastes in the domestic and International market besides information about the trends in exports and potential for exports. These are vital inputs for making MSMEs aware about their marketing strategy which this cell would provide. He congratulated NSIC on this initiative and hoped that all MSMEs would derive full benefit from this Cell.

CMD NSIC, Dr. H.P. Kumar spoke on the benefits of the MSME –Marketing Intelligence Cell. He said the Centre will create awareness about the various programmes and Schemes for MSMEs & will specifically maintain database and disseminate information on the following:
  • Date base of Bulk Buyers (product wise) Buyers in Govt. / PSU’s
  • Data base of Rate Contracts of Various Govt. Departments & PSUs
  • Information on Tenders floated by Govt. Departments and PSUs.
  • Database  of Indian Exporters  to Various Countries with Products.
  • Database  of International Buyers with Products.
  • Database  of Technology  Suppliers & Projects for MSMEs.
  • List of Micro & Small enterprises registered with NSIC for
  • Govt. Purchase, Raw Material Assistance, Performance & Credit Rating  Schemes.
He further added that the NSIC Marketing Intelligence Cell will integrate the available information at one source to enable the MSMEs to avail and strengthen their efforts in a focussed manner.

Also present on the occasion were M. Raman, Director General (S&D), Madhav Lal, AS&DC(MSME) and other officers of the Ministry and NSIC.
