Delivering a 5-point road map to boost Indo-Pak trade, industry leaders from both sides of the border on Wednesday urged the governments of the two nations to take all steps to boost bilateral trade.
After an interactive two-day discussion at the Indo-Pak business meet that started on Tuesday in New Delhi, industry leaders of both countries agreed that economic cooperation is crucial to peace and progress in a region that has the highest concentration of people living below the poverty line.
Business leaders from both the countries also agreed to collaborate on a wide array of sectors like textiles, IT, education, agriculture, energy and healthcare.
"Economic cooperation is crucial to peace and progress in a region that has the highest concentration of people living below the poverty line," they said in a joint statement at the end of a two-day meet.
They said they would aggressively pursue their respective governments to take necessary steps to deepen trade and economic ties between the two countries.
At the business meet, committees comprising business leaders from both countries were established for the IT and textile sectors while it was informed that similar committees for other sectors are in the process of being set up.
In addition to the promotion of bilateral trade, the business meet asked governments in the two countries to remove visa restrictions and allow cell phone roaming facility in a bid to change public perception and remove the existing mistrust between the two nations.
The business leaders also agreed to set up a permanent secretariat to follow up all on the recommendations taken at the meet, and informed that the next economic conference would be held in Pakistan on a date of mutual convenience.
