The government is planning to allot a huge fund to the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector for technology acquisition, said Secretary, Ministry of MSME, Dinesh Rai on Wednesday.
Rai told SME Times on the sidelines of a CII conference in the national capital, "The Ministry is planning a big fund for technology acquisition for MSMEs. We are working on the nitty-gritty."
He mentioned that it has been proposed and recommended by the MSME task force, which has been set up by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last year.
When asked whether this point was discussed on the MSME task force meeting which has been held on Tuesday in New Delhi, Rai commented, "It was not discussed in detail. In fact, other things were discussed. The government will give an amount for technology acquisition to the MSME sector."
"Already the Department of Science& Technology and bio-technology have some schemes. But we are trying to integrate so that it becomes more appropriate and entrepreneurs can be at advantage." Rai added.
The MSME sector contributes about 45 percent of India's total manufactured output and close to 40 percent to the country's exports and employs around 42 million people in the country.
