The government is promoting eco-friendly technology for the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through various schemes, says Minister of State (Independent Charge) for MSME, Dinsha Patel informed this in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday

“The Ministry of MSME is operating various programmes and schemes for promoting eco-friendly technology and processes for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises,” Minister said.

He said that the schemes for technology upgradation including Eco/ Environment friendly technology and modernization of micro and small enterprises were Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme (CLCSS), Promotion of Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln (VSBK) and Technology and Quality Upgradation Support to MSMEs under National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme (NMCP).

Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme (CLCSS) is facilitating technology upgradation of Micro and Small Enterprises by providing capital subsidy for induction of well-established and improved technology.

During the year 2007-08, subsidy amounting to the tune of Rs. 76.3 crore, in the year 2008-09 subsidy to the tune of Rs.108.8 crore and in the year 2009-10 subsidy amounting to the tune of Rs. 150.4 crore was disbursed to the Nodal agencies under Credit Link Capital Subsidy Scheme.

Promotion of Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln (VSBK) technology which is ecofriendly and energy efficient for manufacturing of Bricks in MSME sector. Funds to the tune of Rs. 34.37 lakh in the year 2007-08, Rs. 20.11 lakh in the year 2008-09 & Rs. 21.05 lakh in the year 2009-10 have been provided for setting up Demonstration Plant on VSBK technology and awareness programmes.

He also informed that recently, the Government has launched a scheme namely “Technology and Quality Upgradation Support to MSMEs” under National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme (NMCP).

One of the activities of the scheme is capacity building of MSME clusters for Energy Efficiency/ Clean Development Mechanism and implementation of Energy Efficient Technologies and other technologies mandated as per the Global Standards in MSMEs. The primary objective of this activity is to hand hold and encourages MSME clusters in adopting Energy Efficient Process/ Technologies. This scheme has been launched recently.
