To make micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) healthier, more sops are likely to come in the mid term appraisal of the eleventh plan. This was stated by Arun Maira, Member of Planning Commission, who is also a member of the MSME Task Force.

On the sidelines of the Second Rural Development Summit, organized by CII, in the capital on Monday, Maira told told SME Times: "SMEs are center to the economic development of India because the size of institutes immediately engages a lot of people. We need to engage people in our economic activity, so that employment is provided much more by SMEs than by the large organizations."

"So to nurture SMEs, and to provide conditions so that many more sprout and then be healthy and grow is what we are emphasizing now."

"The mid term appraisal of the eleventh plan focuses on how to make micro, small and medium companies more healthier. We are figuring out how to create conducive condition (for them to grow) and we have got six or seven things in mind, which already being rolled-out actually. So that's going to be center to the growth of SMEs," he added.

When asked what are these six and seven things, he said, "...assistance to existent clusters so that they can get other facilities that they need, marketing support, assistance to get skilled people and to develop the skilled people themselves, supply inputs and most of all, credit."

"SMEs find it very difficult to get the cash that they need to grow their businesses so we are working with the banks, working with the people who buy from them, i.e public sector and private sectors. They (buyers from SMEs) have to respect their needs and pay them on time," he added.
