Two wheeler maker Honda
Motorcycle and Scooter India on Wednesday said it would close 2016
selling five million units with its new plant in Gujarat going on
stream.
Launching a new 110cc motorcycle NAVI at the Auto Expo
2016 near here, the company also announced six new planned production
models slated for an India launch, the company said in a statement.
"2016
will be the historic year for Honda. Led by increased capacity with
fourth plant, we will cross the threshold of five million two-wheeler
sales in India for the first time.
"More importantly, we are
confident that Honda's six new models led by NAVI will reinvent two
wheeler mobility in India," an official Keita Muramatsu, was quoted as
saying in the statement.
"India, with its fast growing economy,
is the largest two-wheeler market in the world and our Indian operation
became the largest volume contributor to Honda's global production in
2001," Takahiro Hachigo, president, ceo and representative director,
Honda Motor Company Ltd, Japan was quoted in the statement.
"Honda's
fourth two-wheeler plant in Gujarat will be ready to commence its
operation soon, and our operations here in this country further deliver
lots of joy and excitement," he added.
According to officials the
new motorcycle NAVI was the first 100 percent Honda research and
development India model - from concept development to commercial
production.
