Ashwin Dani (67), Vice Chairman of Asian Paints Limited, has been elected as Vice President of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

He was unanimously elected at the 82nd AGM of FICCI held recently in the capital. Dani is also on the Board of Sun Pharmaceuticals Ltd, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the country.

Besides, being on the Board of Asian Paints Limited, Asian PPG Industries Limited and Sun Pharmaceuticals; the other positions that he currently holds are: Chairman - Resins and Plastics Ltd, Gujarat Organics Ltd and Hi-Tech Plast Ltd.

Dani started his career in 1967, as a Development Chemist with Inmont Corp (now known as BASF), Detroit, USA. He joined Asian Paints in 1968 as Senior Executive and moved through successive senior positions like Director, Whole-time Director, Vice Chairman & Managing Director and Vice Chairman.

At Asian Paints, Dani has been responsible for the development and introduction of many products for the first time in India.  He pioneered the idea of Computer Colour matching in the Indian industry. This concept is now widely used in sectors like paints, plastics, printing inks and textiles.

Dani holds a Masters Degree in Polymer Science from the University of Akron, USA and Diploma in Colour Science from Rensellaer Polytechnic, New York.   He has also completed his Bachelor’s degree in Paints Technology from U.D.C.T, University of Mumbai.

Dani has been a past President of the Indian Paint Association (IPA) and has also served as the Managing Trustee of ‘Light & Yoga Trust’, founded by Yogacharya BKS Iyengar.
