The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) in Gandhinagar will set up a centre at Almaty in Kazakhstan on a turnkey basis to promote entrepreneurship in the central Asian country.

The centre is expected to start functioning by end of this year.

EDI Director Dinesh Awasthi said the the external affairs ministry had sponsored the project and it entailed creating infrastructure, appointing the staff and training them.

The Damu Fund of Kazakhstan is expected to invest $1.7 billion in the venture.

EDI will profile at least 100 sectors in Kazakhstan which have growth potential. These sectors will be marked out for detailed studies so that entrepreneurship can be encouraged in them.
