In the passing away of Professor CK Prahalad, Paul and Ruth McCracken Distinguished University Professor, Ross School of Business, the University of Michigan, on April 16 in LA, USA, India and Indian Industry has lost a great Visionary and Strategist, a leading industry chamber, CII told media.

Venu Srinivasan, President, CII, said, "Professor Prahalad played an exemplary role in bringing Indian Manufacturing to the centre stage. CII had an opportunity to work with Professor Prahalad for over two decades on leadership and competitiveness," observed CII President.

Professor Prahalad was a thought leader on many subjects and wrote in eminent journals about his vision for the Manufacturing industry, which he termed as Manufacturing 2.0. His principles became the guiding light for the Indian Industry and over the years, his vision has become visible through new generation of products and services across India.

Professor CK Prahalad or CKP as he was popularly known as was an ardent academician and greater promoter and propounded importance of competition through his many books and numerous award winning papers on ‘Core Competency and Strategy‘.

His books 'Competing for the Future' and 'Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid' were rated as best-sellers worldwide, and have been printed in 14 languages. CII believes in Prof. Prahalad’s vision and passion for India to be a great economic force for the World to reckon with.

CII and its members have had a long association with Professor Prahalad. Inspired by his vision for an economically vital, technically innovative, socially and ethically vibrant India turning 75 in 2022, CII evolved ‘India@75 –The People’s Agenda’ as its Mission in 2009 to create a movement wherein everyone contributes towards the development and growth of India.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing away of a friend and mentor," said Rajan Navani, CII's Chairman for India@75.

"We at CII believe that Prof Prahalad was a great thinker, guide and passionate  visionary who immensely contributed to Industry as well as to the cause of the common man and worked tirelessly to make developed India a reality. He had the unique ability to stretch your mind by a great idea and then the mind just could not return to its original dimension. He created the India@75 vision which has inspired us immensely and we will continue to provide thought leadership and help shape the aspirational long-term agenda of the organization in nation - building and developing a global footprint for India."

Meanwhile Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII said that the industry has lost an outstanding Management Guru, a visionary, a great soul who was highly committed to contribute towards India's growth and development.

he said, "Over decades of close association, for the Indian Industry and CII, with Prof C K Prahalad. Many learnings – Manufacturing, Competitiveness, the "Power at the Bottom of the Pyramid", the Vision for Developed India through his India@75 initiative and many more."

"CII will continue to work on CKP's India@75 vision and shall continue to drive this initiative," he added.
