Following an increase in input costs and introduction of new emission norms, India's largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India, on Friday hiked prices of its vehicles by up to Rs.10,000.

"Due to sharp increase in the input costs and also introduction of BS IV (emission) norms in some models, Maruti Suzuki India has decided to pass on part of this cost impact to customers," the car maker said in a statement.

Maruti cars like Ritz and A-Star will now be dearer by Rs.1,000, Estillo by Rs.2,500 while Swift will cost Rs.3,750 more. Other models like the Dzire will be costlier by Rs.7,000 and mid-sized sedan SX4 Rs.9,000 more.

The company has also withdrawn its introductory prices for the multi-utility van, Eeco. It will now cost Rs.10,000 more, it said.

Prices have also been hiked for BS-III compliant cars like Maruti 800 and Omni by Rs.3,000. The Gypsy will be dearer by Rs.10,000, Maruti Suzuki said.
