In an effort to contain counterfeiting of Indian currency, the government is planning to set up a directorate of currency (DoC) under the finance ministry to monitor security breaches and review best practices worldwide.

"The DoC will monitor and review best practices around the world. It will also monitor and review instances of breach of security features in India besides identifying new security features and promote R&D," Minister of State for Finance, Namo Narain Meena told the Lok Sabha Friday.

He said the efforts of the DOC are expected to substantially contain the counterfeiting of Indian bank notes.
