Wheat procurement in Punjab and Haryana has crossed the 150 lakh tonnes mark, officials said on Monday.
While over 91.6 lakh tonnes of wheat had been procured in Punjab till Sunday evening, in Haryana the procurement stood at nearly 58.5 lakh tonnes.
The procurement started April 1 in both states which are expecting a bumper crop this season.
Both states created individual records in wheat procurement in May last year with Punjab procuring 110 lakh tonnes and Haryana procuring nearly 70 lakh tonnes.
Punjab alone contributes nearly 50 per cent of the foodgrains, wheat and paddy, to the national kitty annually.
