Sony has announced it will stop selling floppy disks from March 2011 because of falling sales, a media report said in London on Tuesday.

The Japanese electronics giant had stopped selling the disks in many international markets earlier this year due to low demand and competition from other storage media such as online storage and portable USB drives, BBC News reported.

The company continues to ship floppy disks in the millions and about 12 million disks were sold in Japan in 2009, The Telegraph said in another report.
