Healthy and stable economic and trade relations between China and the US serve the interests of both countries, Chinese President Hu Jintao said Friday.

Hu spoke with US President Barack Obama on the telephone Friday, where he hoped both sides could settle their trade disputes through dialogue and consultation, Xinhua news agency reported.

As uncertainties still remain in the global economic recovery, both China and the US face the challenge of boosting the recovery and maintaining stable economic development, he said.

Meanwhile, Obama said the US understands the challenges that China is facing in its economic development, and both countries should continue to make efforts to address each other's concerns and achieve balanced development.

Properly handling Taiwan and Tibet issues, which concern China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and represent the country's core interest, is key to China-US relations, Hu said.

China attaches great importance to the issue of nuclear security, opposing nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism, and supporting international efforts to enhance cooperation on nuclear security, he said.
