The sales of domestic passenger cars grew by 17.47 percent during the last month to 162,022 units from the corresponding month of last year, industry data showed on Monday.

According to the data furnished by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the auto industry's July, 2014 sales stood at 137,922 units. There was a marginal up-tick of 1.53 percent in June, 2015 off-take.

The data revealed that the total passenger vehicle sales, which include cars, utility vehicles and vans, went up by 11.43 percent to 222,368 units from 199,562 units sold in July, 2014.

SIAM data showed that sales of utility vehicles inched-up by 0.37 percent at 45,191 units. However, the off-take of vans declined by 8.80 percent and stood at 15,155 units.

The industry data for the last month reported a 8.41 percent growth in the overall commercial vehicles segment sales, which is a key indicator of economic activity.

The commercial vehicles segment off-take for July stood at 51,795 units from 47,775 units sold during the corresponding month of 2014.

The sales of three-wheelers receded by 12.26 percent in the month under review at 45,151 units from 51,462 units sold in July of 2014.

Sales of two-wheelers last month crawled-up by 0.14 percent to 1,300,457 units from 1,298,694 units sold in the like month of 2014.

Scooter sales in July, 2015 were up 15.36 percent at 432,262 units, while motorcycle sales declined by 6.36 percent at 808,332 units.

Exports for the month under review went up by 6.94 percent at 344,906 units from 322,514 units shipped-out during July, 2014.

Total automobile sales in July was up by 1.39 percent at 1,619,771 units from 1,597,493 units sold in the corresponding month of 2014.
