The curtains rung down on Asia's largest and most sought after sourcing platform Indian Handicrafts & Gifts Fair (IHGF-Spring) 2014 in which USA, Japan and China dominated the 37th edition of IHGF, informed a nodal agency for promotion of exports of handicrafts products, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH).

The fair registered a footfall of about 4600 buyers including big buying houses from over 45 countries and expecting a business worth over Rs. 1500 crore to be generated during its four-day exposition which concluded in Greater Noida recently.

Japan is focusing India for Handicrafts as the largest number of buyers 123 from Japan attended the fair this year.

China had placed orders worth Rs. 60 crore and had only 60 buyers who visited the fair.

A large number of buyers came from US, UK, Japan, Germany, France, Australia, Spain, Greece, Canada, Italy, Hong Kong, China, Turkey, Hungry, Oman, Bulgaria, Singapore, Israel, Portugal, Sweden, Mexico, Denmark, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Taiwan, UAE, Netherlands, S. Africa, LAC, CIS and many other countries.

The 37th edition of IHGF, organized by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), received an overwhelming response from the foreign buyers as well as Indian companies in which a total of 2600 participants including 900 permanent marts showcased a wide variety of handicrafts products at this show.

More than 1000 types of varieties of the handcrafted products comprising Houseware, Decoratives and Gifts, Home Textiles, Furnishing and floor coverings, Furniture & Accessories, Jewellery and fashion accessories, Christmas decorations, Incense sticks, Cane and Bamboo and Home Textiles were put on display covering the entire complex of world class venue pf India Expo Centre and Mart spread over 97,000 sq. mtrs. area.

During the fair, H.E. Maria Clemencia Rodriguez De Santos, First Lady of Republic of Colombia launched the facility of "Mobile Application of IHGF", an EPCH initiative, on http://epch.in/mobile for the ease of the visiting buyers to find out products and companies of their interest.

With an objective of enhancing friendly relationship and promotion of bilateral cooperation in the area of product development and designing of handicraft products on the basis of mutual benefit through diversification and enhancement of handicraft production, EPCH and the Bogota Chamber of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding which was signed by Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director of EPCH and Monica De Greiff Lindo, President of Bogota Chambers of Commerce, Republic of Colombia.

The prestigious Ajai Shankar Memorial Awards for best display and design were also given in six product categories which included Houseware Decorative & Gifts, Home Textiles, Furnishings & Floor Coverings, Christmas Decorations, Candles & Incense Sticks, Fashion Jewellery, Accessories & Bags and Furniture & Home Accessories.

Handicrafts exports registered an increase of 38.5 percent in Rupee terms and 22.15 percent in dollar terms during 2012-13 over the previous year. The exports during first 10 months of the current fiscal is Rs. 16,786.24 crores.

Export target of Rs. 24,500 crores during 2013-14 will be surpassed, elaborated by Executive Director of EPCH.
