Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jyotiraditya M Scindia has presented the FIEO Export Awards – Niryat Shree and Niryat Bandhu – to the outstanding exporters, service providers, best performing banks and export promotion organization in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Congratulating the award winners, Scindia in his address said that he was eying bright future of Indian exports. He said, "Today is the day that we not only congratulate you, we must celebrate your achievements. And I hope that we will achieve the figure of USD 300 billion by 2015 or 2020."

He said that this the time for directional change. "As the economic access is turning across the world we must look more and more at South-South co-operation. From import point of view the developed world is growing about 1.9 percent, meanwhile the developing world is growing at 4.5 to 5 percent. And therefore we need a directional change, which has been a focus of our foreign trade policy," he said.

The export award function was organized by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO). The minister gave away 94 awards, 86 Niryat Shree to exporters for their excellent performance in 12 categories and 8 Niryat Bandhu awards to export promotion councils and banks for their excelent support to the exporting community.

Besides, a special award was given to Export Credit Guarantee India Ltd. (ECGC) for lending meritorious institutional support to the exporters.

Considering the current economic conditions and the slowing of global trade, exports in the last five years have been growing from strength to strength, and have shown a steady growth of 23 percent in October.

FIEO, President, A Sakthivel in his opening remarks thanked the government for its support to the exporting community. Sakthivel said that the signing of various FTAs particularly with ASEAN has opened vistas of opportunity for Indian exports.

"The market diversification strategy has started yielding results and will help in expanding export base so as to insulate from slow growth in advance economies," he added.
