Government would be able to take important policy decisions on the basis of the report of the MSME task force soon, says Dinsha J. Patel, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.

The minister stated this during the 2nd Annual General Meeting and the 3rd Governing Council Meeting of Ni-MSME (National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), Hyderabad, a national level Entrepreneurship Development Institute under Ministry of MSME was held recently. Patel presided over the meeting.

Patel informed that the Prime Minister had set up a High level task force to look into the problems faced by MSMEs and he hoped that Government would be able to take important policy decisions on the basis of the report of the task force.

Appreciating the work done by NiMSME in the field of entrepreneurship development, the Minister noted that Ni-MSME had trained more than 1.25 lakh Indian participants and more than 7000 executives of 127 countries since its inception.

He praised the Institute for training 59% more participants during the year 2008-09 as compared to the year 2007-08.

He further stated that the Prime Minister had set up Skill Development Mission to train 500 million persons by 2022 under which the Ministry and its organisations, including NiMSME, would play an important role.

On the occasion, the Minister also launched the redesigned website of Ni-MSME and hoped that it would help the entrepreneurs in making use of the services offered by NiMSME.

Sustainability of MSMEs and role of National Institutes
Dr. S. Venkat | Sat Oct 24 21:54:14 2009
In my opinion and limited experience with MSME stakeholders, the role and support by Govt and academic institutes is well recieved. MSMEs should be ready to use the tremendous strength of network of stakeholders, need to adopt worldclass manufacturing/best practices, ivest in people in the form of continuing education and technology upgradation. MSMEs need to focus on critical areas like quality, cost, delivery, innovation for sustainable development. MSMEs need to adopt information and communciation technologies (ICT) in the business mainly in three areas sourcing, marketing and to improve the visibility of supply chain activities. Participation by MSMEs in quality management activities needs improvement and better support and incentives from Government organisations may be a good area to focus.
